Witness is the second album released by Iowa hardcore quintet Modern Life Is War, released in 2005 via Deathwish Inc. This is the last . album to feature Chris Honeck on bass and Matt Hoffman on guitar, as both members would leave the band after the album's release. The album cover was created by Converge singer J. Bannon, and features an image of Main Street, Marshalltown - the city in Iowa where the band members are from - taken in 1896.

Modern Life is War is the embodiment of a genre, the precursor to acts that take direct influence from this album, that try to copy an itch to the light that Witness shined upon the genre. We bleed and die the same, every one of us; and Witness is the album that takes these feelings and channels them into musical form. A true masterpiece that deserves all the praise that it is handed. Modern Life Is War play modern, melodic hardcore with some of the most emotionally taxing lyrics and vocals around. Jeffrey Eaton, if anything, has improved his performance from My Love, My Way. Compared to their last album, Witness slows the tempo a bit, but it only adds impact to the emotive qualities of the band. I truly believe this is one of the best hardcore albums ever made. Instrumentally and lyrically. There's no weak point about it at all.
