Music video by Common performing Universal Mind Control (UMC).

Universal Mind Control (UMC). Featuring Pharrell Williams. Produced by The Neptunes. Album Universal Mind Control. Universal Mind Control (UMC) Lyrics. This is that new shit, keep 'em standing in line That universal mind control, now move yo' behind Uh, you know you like it; it's calling yo' name Nigga, this is that new shit, and it don't feel the same It's got that dang da-da-dang d-dang-a-dang dang Dang diggy dang. d-dang-a-dang dang Bop bop, d-dang d-dang diggy diggy Bop bop, d-dang d-dang dang. Some pop, some lock, some move robotic Like cash money I stay in pocket . r-r-r-rock, don't stop it Chicks exotic, mix Hpnotiq Superhero role boy, I'm bionic You a fad.

On Universal Mind Control, he- and the Neptunes- split his personalities into what seem like two wildly different EP. On a song called "Announcement" from his eighth LP, Universal Mind Control, Common raps, "I still love . she be needin' the dick/ When it comes to hip-hop, it's just me and my bitch. He's referring to his 1994 song "I Used to Love . where he began to seriously define himself as a moralistic foil to the gangster rap phenomenon. The reference seems ironic on an album this vacuous and amoral. Then again, the song has been ironic from the start.

That Universal Mind Control, now move your behind. You know you like it, it's calling your name. Nigga, this is that new shit and it don't feel the same. It's that bang Some pop, some lock, some move robotic. Like Cash Money, I stay in pocket. You MC's Ra-Ra-Ra Rock, don't stop it. Chicks exotic, mix hypnotic? Superhero-row Boy I'm bionic

Universal Mind Control is in a close race for worst of the year, but it's a fitting follow-up to the disappointing Finding Forever. Common said there was one thing missing from his resume: the club sound. Here's the problem: Common is not a club artist. So it's easy to imagine why Universal Mind Control disappoints. What makes the album worse is that sounds completely thrown together. It sounds like the Neptunes put all of their unused beats on a disc and dared Common to try to rap over them. Everything is choppy and haphazard sounding and given the typically simplistic structure of a club banger this is a pretty momentous failing. Gladiator alternates between a well-used sample and an atrocious mixture of dark and apocalyptic beats peppered with an ill-fitting trumpet squeal.

Universal Mind Control" is the first single released by Common from his 2008 album of the same name. The single features vocals from Pharrell Williams, who co-produced the song with Chad Hugo under their production team The Neptunes. The music video premiered on Common's official YouTube channel on October 6, 2008. In a recent Microsoft Zune commercial, Common tells Afrika Bambaataa that, when writing this song, he was influenced by Bambaataa's song "Planet Rock", which the song samples. It is Common's second highest charting single in the . Universal Mind Control (UMC). Common ft. Pharrell "Universal Mind Control".

Common has admitted that 'Universal Mind Control' was meant to be released in the summer, and in darkest December its qualities will be stretched to the limit. Which is bad news for the booty-bouncing "Sex 4 Sugar" and the pugnacious "Gladiator", but they may have the legs to last till it's warm enough to wind down your windows. Those two are, in any case, atypical. Much of 'Universal Mind Control' finds the Neptunes in a mellow-yellow mood we've heard only fleetingly since . Pick of album: Summertime love: 'Changes'.
