Текст песни: All the time they want to take your place The back stabbers (back stabbers) All you fellows who have someone and you really care, yeah, yeah Then it’s all of you fellows who better beware, yeah yeah.

Recording sessions for the album took place at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1972. Back Stabbers was a breakthrough album for the group, reaching the top 10 of the Billboard Pop Albums chart and selling over 500,000 copies within a year of release.

A major turning point for the O'Jays, Back Stabbers took the group to the top of the charts and made them household names in the R&B world. The O'Jays had been paying serious dues since the late '50s, and their perseverance payed off in a major way when the unsettling title song, the infectious "Time to Get Down," and the uplifting "Love Train" became their biggest hits up to that point.

The O’Jays responded to a new era of political consciousness with Back Stabbers, in which burning emotions are couched in a highly sophisticated musical backdrop. The arranged harmonies of the title song and Shiftless, Shady, Jealous Kind of People transform tales of vengeance and betrayal into contagious pop pleasures. (They Call Me) Mr. Lucky is an R&B anthem for street-smart hustlers, but the album’s crown jewel is Love Train, one of the most unabashedly optimistic songs-both musically and thematically-ever set to tape. Back Stabbers The O'Jays.

Gene McFadden and John Whitehead wrote this song along with Leon Huff, who along with Kenny Gamble produced the track and released it on their Philadelphia International label. This song starts with a piano roll that Leon Huff played. He explained in an interview with National Public Radio: "'Back Stabbers sounds like something eerie, so that roll was like something horrible, because that's what back stabbers are. It reflected that type of drama. Regarding the elaborate production and orchestral sound, he added: "Our dream was to play so many counter-melodies that came with those songs, and the orchestra was able to put that together.
