Singin' in the Rain" is a song with lyrics by Arthur Freed and music by Nacio Herb Brown, published in 1929. It is unclear exactly when the song was written; it has been claimed that the song was performed as early as 1927.

Johnny Marvin had a hit with "Breezin' along with the breeze. It's just him and his ukulele singing a song about being carefree and it works fantastically. If other instruments had been added, the intimate feeling of the song - the sense that we are eavesdropping on a solitary, contented traveler - would have been lost. It is almost a prototype for the many ukulele songs that would be recorded in the twenties and the thirties. Other highlights here include "Singin' in the rain," "Little by little," and "Painting the clouds with sunshine.

Taking place during the rise of the "talkies", we meet Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont who have risen to stardom during the silent-film era of Hollywood. Beautiful, charismatic and influential, the two combine to make a great on-screen pair. The introduction of talking pictures poses a threat to the powerful duo, however, when it is discovered by audiences that Lina has an excruciatingly shrill voice. Enter young studio singer Kathy Selden, a woman who lacks the stardom of Ms. Lamont but possesses the beautiful voice of which Lina is in dire need

Album: Singin' In The Rain (1952). Charted: 11. Get the Sheet Music License This Song. Singin' In The Rain only received two nominations at the following year's ceremony: Best Supporting Actress for Jean Hagen and Best Musical Score for Lennie Hayton. Neither won. This song did not escape the disco era unscathed: a group called Sheila & B. Devotion covered it in 1977 with a funky beat. I sing it every time I'm out in the rain. And I do the little dance, and stomp in the mud puddles.

Johnny Cash named his 1965 album after the song and opened the album with it. While bluegrass performers tend to play it as strictly an instrumental, Cash sang the lyrics, and (some would say, blasphemously) replaced the fiddle parts with two harmonicas.
