Welcome to the grand illusion Come on in and see what's happening Pay the price, get your tickets for the show The stage is set, the band starts playing Suddenly your heart is pounding Wishing secretly you were a star. But don't be fooled by the radio The tv or the. magazines They show you photographs of how your life should be But they're just someone else's fantasy So if you think your life is complete confusion Because you never win the game Just remember that it's a grand illusion And deep inside we're all the same  . Наверное, известнейший представитель pomp art rock'а, альбом The Grand Illusion группы Styx. Альбом, который нравится от самого начала до самого конца. Впервые я узнал об этой группе, услышав их песню Come Sail Away, которая надолго засела в голове и заставила меня познакомится с творчеством американцев поближе.

Released in 2005, Grand Illusion is the seventh studio album from Nocturnal Rites. The lyrical themes on this album focus on achieving freedom and overcoming tyranny. Fools Never Die" – 3:54. Something Undefined" – 4:08. Our Wasted Days" – 5:17. Cuts Like a Knife" – 5:10. End of our Rope" – 5:26. Never Ending" – 4:29.

Other than being their first platinum-selling album, The Grand Illusion led Styx steadfastly into the domain of AOR rock. Built on the strengths of "Come Sail Away"'s ballad-to-rock metamorphosis, which gained them their second Top Ten hit, and on the high harmonies of newcomer Tommy Shaw throughout "Fooling Yourself," The Grand Illusion introduced Styx to the gates of commercial stardom. The pulverized growl of "Miss America" reveals the group's guitar-savvy approach to six-string rock, while De Young pretentiously struts his singing prowess throughout.

For Styx, seven was the magic number. The Chicago AOR band’s seventh album, The Grand Illusion, became the first of four consecutive triple- platinum albums that established Styx as one of America’s biggest rock acts. As guitarist James ‘JY’ Young says: Seven is seen as a lucky number in America, and it sure proved lucky for us. By 1977, Styx were primed for that big breakthrough. Having scored a top ten US hit with the ballad Lady in 1975, they signed with A&M  . Buoyed by their leader’s visionary zeal, Styx recorded The Grand Illusion at Chicago’s Paragon Studios between short North American tours. And it was DeYoung who shaped the new songs into an existentialist concept album, themed on the struggle for meaning in life in an increasingly consumerist society. A brilliant concept, Young says. A universal thing that everybody could relate to.

Album · 1977 · 8 Songs. Styx came of age in the mid-to-late ‘70s with a sound rooted in progressive rock and a destiny determined by pop. Their expert musicianship ensured they could gracefully shift from basic ballad melodrama to the climactic and bombastic heights of the most messianic arena rock. Nowhere is that more apparent than in The Grand Illusion’s centerpiece Come Sail Away, where for six minutes the group scale the dynamic range from a whisper to a scream
