Winter Pays for Summer. Release group by Glen Phillips.

On April 5, 2018, Glen Phillips announced that he had signed with Compass Records Group. His recently released 2016 album, Swallowed By the New, was re-released on May 4, 2018, with a new bonus track: "Nobody's Gonna Get Hurt. Options – B-sides & Demos (2014, Umami Music) – primarily outtakes from the 2003–2004 "Winter Pays For Summer" with some older demos thrown in. Swallowed By the New (2016, Umami; 2018, Compass).

Ex-Toad the Wet Sprocket frontman Glen Phillips has always sounded wiser than his years - he was 14 when he joined the band - so it's no surprise that his second full-length collection of solo material is as elegant as it is weighty. With a cast of characters that would appear in boldface if there were a pop underground wall of fame (ex-Jellyfish frontman Andy Sturmer, Ben Folds, Kristin Mooney, Jon Brion, Switchfoot's Jon Foreman and Semisonic/Trip Shakespeare scribe Dan Wilson), Phillips has made a bid for commercial success - each track is poised for prime-time programming . .

Winter Pays For Summer is an album released in 2005 by Glen Phillips. The album was Phillips' debut for Lost Highway/Universal Records. It was recorded during 2003 and 2004. It was produced by John Fields at Paramount Studios and Mansfield Lodge, and features guest appearances by Jon Brion, Sam Phillips, Ben Folds, Andy Sturmer, Kristin Mooney, and Jonathan Foreman. The album boasts a well-produced, radio-ready sheen unheard since Phillips' days with Toad the Wet Sprocket. After being in stores only a few months Lost Highway dropped promotion for the album mid-tour and Glen Phillips asked to be let out of his record deal to create the quiet, and less radio-geared "Mr. Lemons". All songs written by Glen Phillips, except where noted otherwise.

His third, Winter Pays For Summer, is by far the best of the lot, displaying catchy hooks, great lyrics, and a versatility that moves from folk rock to pop to alternative with equal ease. The album is mainly acoustic guitar driven, but complete with backing chords on electric guitar, driving drums, and the occasional piano lick. The music is syncopated and interesting, with enough variation in songwriting to make the music on each new song interesting. But front and center is Phillip's voice, known as one of the top voices in modern songwriting. All in all, Glen Phillips manages to deliver a surprisingly strong album that, while embracing many different musical styles, manages to flow as a cohesive whole. If anything, this album is 'solid', if unspectacular. It's the kind of album that you'll listen to as a whole, for many different moods.

Album Winter Pays for Summer. Duck And Cover Lyrics. Someone's in the back yard, banging on the door Daddy's gone away, he's coming back no more His baby's curled up on a stranger's floor Mama's thinking family dinners weren't too much to ask for. Everybody here's got a story to tell Everybody's been through their own hell There's nothing too special about getting hurt Getting over it, that takes the work. Cause one way or another One way or another You won't get what you wanted You'll get enough, for sure One way or another Winter pays for the summer Won't get what you wanted What you got'll be good. Someone's in the back yard, banging on the door Daddy's gone away, he's coming back no more His baby's curled up on a stranger's floor Mama's thinking happy endings weren't too much to ask for.
