Greatest Hits is a 2001 compilation album by The Cure. The band's relationship with longtime label Fiction Records came to a close, and The Cure were obliged to release one final album for the label. Robert Smith agreed to release a greatest hits album under the condition that he could choose the tracks himself. The band also recorded a special studio album released as a bonus disc to some versions of the album

Greatest Hits is a 2001 compilation album by The Cure. The band also recorded a special studio album released as a bonus disc to some versions of the album. The subsequently released Greatest Hits features select singles from their then-25 year history, along with the two new tracks "Cut Here" and "Just Say Yes". All songs were newly remastered specifically for the collection. In an effort to provide something new for the hardcore fans who owned the previously released songs, Robert arranged for the band and former member Boris Williams to re-record acoustic versions of the Greatest Hits.

In 2001, The Cure left Fiction and released their Greatest Hits album and DVD, which featured the music videos for a number of classic Cure songs. In 2002, the band headlined twelve major summer music festivals, and played three extended concerts (one in Brussels, two in Berlin) in which they performed the albums Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodflowers in their respective entireties each night. The album peaked at number 106 on the Billboard 200 album charts. The band released their twelfth album The Cure on Geffen in 2004, which was produced by Ross Robinson. It made a top ten debut on both sides of the Atlantic in July 2004 and debuted in the top 30 in Australia. To promote the album, the band headlined the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival that May.

The Cure’s Greatest Hits album marks the end of the band’s contract with Fiction Records, and the end of the band’s career in the 20th century, covering all of the band’s biggest hits from 1979 to 2001. It reached on the UK album chart and on the Billboard chart

As Greatest Hits-and particularly the busking pavement jazz of "Lovecats"-reminds us, the best Cure singles were very often tangential exercises; they offered a goth-free playtime divergence from some of the weightier studiousness of those early albums. Or, as smudged frontman Robert Smith says of this 18-track collection, "Songs that are sung with a smile. The two new songs that were recorded for the album are nothing special. I felt like they should of just replaced those songs with "Pictures Of You" it would've been more enjoyable. But you do get all their other great songs and it is very easily to get into.
