Gloria Lynne (born Gloria Wilson; November 23, 1929 – October 15, 2013), also known as Gloria Alleyne, was an American jazz vocalist with a recording career spanning from 1958 to 2007. Lynne was born in Harlem in 1929 to John and Mary Wilson, a gospel singer. She grew up in Harlem, and as a young girl, Lynne sang with the local African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church Choir. At the age of 15, she won first prize at the Amateur Night contest at the Apollo Theater.

I'm Glad There Is You. Artist: Gloria Lynne. Album: Try a Little Tenderness - I'm Glad There Is You, 1999. BTW This is the first version I heard :) Love the lyrics! Show more.

Gloria Lynne is a fantastic jazz/blues singer. Anyone who loves jazz vocals will absolutely adore this great artist. I first hear Ms Lynne on this particular album (LP) while stationed on the island of Guam (the rock) in 1961 (Air Force). Her voice was poetry in motion, especially coupled with the Earl May Trio. I later returned to the states (Kansas) and purchased the LP, but lost it in my numerous moves around the world. 3 people found this helpful.

I'm Glad There Is You by Mel Tormé, Rob McConnell and The Boss Brass (1995). I'm Glad There Is You by The Temptations (1995). I'm Glad There Is You by Sarah Vaughan and Clifford Brown (1955).

Both Try a Little Tenderness and I'm Glad There Is You are fine examples of Gloria Lynne's exceptional vocal talents, showcasing her way with a ballad. While songs like "Indian Love Call" and "Bali Ha'I" aren't suited for her warm, engaging voice, most of the disc is devoted to songs like "Old Man River," "Stella By Starlight," "A Hundred Years from Today" and "Birth of the Blues," songs that show how sensitive, bluesy, ballsy and flat-out wonderful she could be.
