Misfits are an American punk rock band often recognized as the progenitors of the horror punk subgenre, blending punk and other musical influences with horror film themes and imagery. Founded in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey, the original lineup consisted of vocalist, songwriter and keyboardist Glenn Danzig, bassist Jerry Only, and drummer Manny Martínez.

The Misfits, ‘Walk Among Us’ (1982). Glenn Danzig and his band of New Jersey mutants brought much-needed irony to the hardcore scene with anthems like "I Turned Into a Martian. Ditching hardcore's go-to politics to howl about B-movie stuff like zombies and seductive lady vampires, the Misfits' ghoulish full-length debut, Walk Among Us, was the height of horror punk. With their third album, the New York crew set themselves on a course to becoming the most important noise band of the past three decades. Amp-torture clinics like "Starpower" and "Expressway to Yr Skull" explore what bassist Kim Gordon had called "the darkness shimmering beneath the shiny quilt of American pop culture. Their third album is a snapshot of London life, from "'A' Bomb in Wardour Street" to "Down in the Tube Station at Midnight," a salvo against rightwing punkers.
New Misfits album The Devil's Rain will be released worldwide on October 4th, 2011! youtube.
The New York Times conducted an interview with Glenn Danzig about the recent Misfits reunion, and why a reunion came about all of a sudden. The tone of the interview is slightly less optimistic about the future of the band than the interview Jerry Only and Doyle gave moments after leaving the stage. At the time, Only implied that everybody wants to keep moving forward with more shows and potentially more music. Turns out Danzig disagrees. It might sound conceited on Danzig's end, but the dude literally wrote 100% of Misfits' material for the band while he was still around. So no Danzig means no new old school Misfit. hough to be fair, the world hasn't had any Danzig-fronted Misfits since the mid 1980s anyway. So it's not exactly a sudden loss. On the flip side, he doesn't outright say "no" to the idea of a new record. So maybe there's hope once his schedule clears up?

The Misfits are currently at work writing an all-new studio album. The band plans to return to the studio in 2006 to deliver the hardest, most aggressive Misfits material to see the pressing plant since Earth AD! Since the record is still in the writing stages, an exact release date is far too early to determine at this time, reports PunkBands
