1988's Port Royal is somehow surprising, as Running Wild's large back catalog isn't of the highest quality. Port Royal is very fine overall, with excellent songs and fantastic arrangements. Even though the second half of the album fails in comparison with the first, Port Royal is absolutely the most steady of Running Wild's albums. The only thing that might bother listeners is the rather poor mixing, which leaves some pretty vital instruments behind drums and vocals. However, highlights such as the title track, "Blown to Kingdom Come," and "Mutiny" help.

Running Wild is a German heavy metal band, formed in 1976 in Hamburg. They were part of the German metal scene to emerge in the early to mid-1980s. Over the course of their career, they have released sixteen studio albums, three live albums, five compilation albums, and six singles/EPs. After this album, from 1988 to 1992 (for the albums Port Royal, Death or Glory, Blazon Stone and Pile of Skulls), Running Wild mainly wrote historically based lyrics On 17 April 2009 Rolf announced that Running Wild had split up. Their intended last show was at Wacken Open Air on July 30, 2009.
Port Royal is the fourth album by Running Wild. This release expanded on the pirate theme introduced in their album Under Jolly Roger (1987) and established them as "pirate metal" in the metal community. Though Running Wild would mature a lot more as songwriters on future albums, Port Royal shows everything that would make them standout musicians in the German metal scene. Port Royal has everything from the epics to, the anthems to the straight up rockers
This is the first Running Wild album I have listened to and I am very impressed but it's different from the normal power metal lyrics you get I guess. Intro (0:50) Pretty standard power metal start to an album
