Frank Vignola is one of the most extraordinary guitarists performing before the public today. His stunning virtuosity has made him the guitarist of choice for many of the world’s top musicians, including Ringo Starr, Madonna, Donald Fagen, Wynton Marsalis, Tommy Emmanuel, the Boston Pops, the New York Pops, and guitar legend Les Paul, who named Vignola to his Five Most Admired Guitarists List for the Wall Street Journal. Frank Vignola has gone smooth on us. This is a disappointing development given that Vignola's last release, Look Right, Jog Left, was a very satisfying fusion effort. I'll admit that some of these rock-to-jazz projects are likable (check out Fareed Haque's own Deja Vu ), but most are lamentable. Frank Vignola is considered to be among the top rank of guitarists on the music scene today. Born on December 30, 1965, in Long Island, New York, he began playing guitar at the age of five. As his proficiency grew, he spent many hours listening to the music of legendary guitarists Django Reinhardt, Joe Pass, and Johnny Smith. Frank Vignola is a stunning player, and this album of standards showcases him at his best. A bit of Django flavor contributes to a sound that is distinctively his own, and the Gershwin interpretations are original and lively without losing sight of the original melody and swing. This album is a delight. 3 people found this helpful.
