With his excellent occupied Low Desert Punk Band, Bjork lets the scorching heat of Nevada shimmer in his songs. He also scrubs his guitar through all sorts of psychedelic effect pedals and skillfully mixes Stoner Rock, Blues and Doom-bonds to a feverish hazy brew.
Overview (current section).
Bjork's next album, 2002's Brant Bjork & the Operators, named for Bjork's fictional backing band, 'the Operators', was recorded in November 2000 with Bjork again performing vocals and most instruments. He would continue to be the sole performer, except for a few guest spots, on 2003's Keep Your Cool and 2004's Local Angel. Bjork would form the band Brant Bjork and the Bros in 2003, featuring guitarist Mike Pygmie, bassist Dylan Roche, and drummer Michael Peffer, with Bjork performing vocals and additional guitar. Brant Bjork and the Low Desert Punk Band. Black Power Flower (November 17, 2014).
Brant Bjork is a name that many stoner rock fans will immediately recognize, mostly for his role as drummer in the highly influential stoner bands Kyuss and Fu Manchu. Though both bands are part of the revered Palm Desert Scene, they’re on different ends of the spectrum; Kyuss is the angsty, more aggressive side, while Fu Manchu had an upbeat, punk influenced sound. After parting ways with Kyuss, Brant joined Fu Manchu, whose debut album he had produced. In 1999, however, Brant walked out from behind the kit, and released Jalamanta, as a one-man band.
To call Black Power Flower a Brant Bjork solo release would be a misnomer. Undoubtedly he’s the principal songwriter, as each of the album’s 10 tracks bear his penchant for smooth, laid back desert groove, funky turns and ’70s slang - to wit, That’s a Fact, Jack, Hustler’s Blues, Buddha Time (Everything Fine) - but the presence of the other players in the Low Desert Punk Band, of guitarist Bubba DuPree (ex-Void). They end with a noisy wash of a finish on perhaps their most full-band note, showing the chemistry at work in Brant Bjork and the Low Desert Punk Band as a unit of players who’ve known each other for years despite this being their first album together under this moniker.

New Solo Album 2014 from the Stoner Rock Cult Figure Brant Bjork ( ex-KYUSS, VISTA CHINO ) No one can fool this man anymore: As a cult figure of the Palm Desert scene, as founder and drummer of the unfortunately no longer active Stoner-Rock legends Kyuss and a permanent member of Vista Chino (formerly KYUSS Lives!), the formation around Kyuss colleague. John Garcia, Brant Bjork is washed with all (musical) waters. Now he is sailing under his own flag and proves once again that his multi-instrumental skills know no creative boundaries.
