Burial (Burial album).

Album · 2006 · 13 Songs.

Burial is the debut studio album by London electronic producer Burial, released in 2006 on Kode9's Hyperdub label. Considered a landmark of the mid-2000s dubstep scene, the album's sound features a dark, emotive take on the UK rave music that preoccupied Burial in his youth, including 2-step, jungle, and UK garage. Critics have variously interpreted the release as an elegy for the dissipated rave movement and a sullen audio portrait of London.

William Emmanuel Bevan, known by his recording alias Burial, is a British electronic musician from South London. Initially remaining anonymous, Burial became the first artist signed to Kode9's electronic label Hyperdub in 2005. He released his self-titled debut album, which drew inspiration from UK rave music and pirate radio culture, to acclaim in 2006; it was named the album of the year by The Wire. Burial's second album, Untrue, was released to further critical acclaim in 2007.

Burial's decision not to let a backstory be a part of the music doesn't come across as a strategy calculated to maximize hype, but just the opposite: a means of keeping the music pure, faceless, answerable only to itself- a closed system. The critical success of Burial's self-titled first album threatened to derail the project's mystery, however. A collection of tunes recorded at home on a low-tech setup over the course of many years, Burial- moody, brooding, by turns supple and sullen- shot to the top of many critics' best-of lists last year.

Burial's now classic album on double vinyl - features a free and unique download code, black inner sleeves and 180g vinyl in a thick card sleeve. Includes unlimited streaming of Untrue via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

I said this at the time, pointing to a Megaman solo album as the most likely breakthrough. Then, everything dropped off the map. The tunes that the kids at the back of the bus were playing off their phones were songs that had been recorded before MP3 phones were even invented - "Oi" by More Fire Crew, "Bound 4 Da Reload" by Oxide & Neutrino, like that.

While the genre is usually filed under dubstep, there is in fact much more going on here. Ambient and garage often get used to describe the album. This album was very unique and fresh when first released and quickly rose Burial to the top of the dubstep scene. At this time, his real name was not known and he released music simply as Burial. Burial (Extol album). Critics and fans usually categorize the album's style as either death/black metal or simply metal because it contains elements of several subgenres of heavy metal music. The notable black metal elements on the album include the high-pitched shrieking vocals of Peter Espevoll, some black metal tremolo riffs, such as on "Innbydelse", and the slightly raw sound production.
