Music to Eat is the only album ever produced by avant garde rock band Hampton Grease Band. It was released in 1971. The album is a double album, which is apocryphally said to have been the second-lowest selling album in Columbia's history, second only to a yoga instructional record.

Music To Eat ‎(2xLP, Album, Ltd, RE, Pea). Real Gone Music, Columbia. RGM-0722, 19075812691. Don't be fooled by the hype surrounding the Hampton Grease Band. My copy was fifteen dollars and that's as much as I would be willing to pay for it now. If you like ugly senseless proto-progressive rock than try it; otherwise, proceed with caution. I do enjoy "Hey Old Lady/Bert's Song", though, pleb that I am.

Band Name Hampton Grease Band. Album Name Music to Eat. Type Album. 版公司 Columbia Records CBS Records. Other productions from Hampton Grease Band. Music to Eat. Albums in Psychedelic Rock. Women and Children First. Perversity, Desperation and Death.

Hampton Grease Band's only album, now reissued as a double CD, is a one-of-a-kind item, drawing upon jazz, lic guitar rock, and a generally surrealist bent to back Bruce Hampton's idiot-savant ravings. Comparisons with Zappa and Beefheart are really inevitable, though Hampton Grease Band really weren't on the level of those two fellow weirdos. They were definitely on their own wavelength, though, carving out a more guitar-oriented sound that skirted even closer to the lunatic fringe.

TITLE added to MP3 cart. Hampton Grease Band. Exclusive Prime pricing. "Please retry". But there is no reason Music To Eat should have been down there with the yoga disc. This may not be as immaculately arranged as a Zappa album or as dissonent as Beefheat. The jams, however, have mass qualities of both, and also have the folksy reflex of early Little Feet.

Info The Hampton Grease Band was an American rock band, beginning as a blues-rock group in the late 1960s in Atlanta, Georgia. They performed with several major bands in this period, including Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers. The band gained a reputation for wacky stage antics, and eventually garnered enough attention to sign to Columbia Records. They recorded a double album, Music to Eat, which is apocryphally said to have been the second-lowest selling album in Columbia's history, second only to a Maharishi Mahesh yoga instructional record

For something that was supposedly the “worst selling” album on Columbia, and presumably rare, there are sure a lot of copies for sale. They hyped up the reissue pretty fierce. Glad I did some research first, as I usually don’t preview albums before I buy. The reason it isn’t actually “rare” and expensive is that most people couldn’t sit through the whole thing

There is a vinyl reissue on the way. Looks like it is due in August

Be warned -- it can get REALLY stupid. Don't be fooled by the hype surrounding the Hampton Grease Band. Do your research first. What makes you think I want to get rid of it?
FailCrew
I'll give you $16 for it then. Let me know.
