The Number Ones - Another Side of The Number Ones.

The Number Ones is a compilation album of hits by The Beatles released in 1983 by EMI on the Parlophone Records label in Australia. It is a localised version of the 1982 compilation album 20 Greatest Hits. To reflect Australia's differing tastes, EMI Australia issued its own version of 20 Greatest Hits. As The Beatles had 23 number ones in Australia, the title was aptly changed to The Number Ones.

Three years since their debut LP, Dublin's The Number Ones return with a new four track EP that confirms them as kings of pop. ‘Lie to Me’ is a bitter sweet pop song that oozes golden melodies and youthful energy. After one play it’s stuck in your mind and after repeated plays you’ll wonder how you lived without this song in your life. It’s a mix of a classic Good Vibrations single and The Senseless Things before they signed to a major label. Long Way to Go’ is the perfect three minute pop song that could have been released in either in 1979 or 1967

A Josh Groban Christmas album. And one of the most fascinating albums on the list is a record that Neil Young basically made on the spur of the moment. In early 1971, Neil Young was in the midst of a now-legendary solo-acoustic tour, and he came to Nashville to play his new heroin-blues song The Needle And The Damage Done on The Johnny Cash Show.

Until 1 February 1994, the chart was compiled each week by Gallup – after this date, it was managed by Millward Brown, who expanded the number of sales figures sampled, and extended the use of electronic point of sale machines.

Since Michael Jackson botched his first hits collection by pairing it with a new album of material in a double-disc set, making it considerably less attractive for those legions of listeners who want just a single disc of hits, it's both inevitable and welcome that he attempted another compilation a few years later

If you include his four number ones as a member of Take That, he has been in pole position 15 times - the same as The Beatles. He shifted 67,000 copies more than the number two album, Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP 2. Teenage songwriter Jake Bugg was a new entry at three with Shangri La, while boyband JLS saw their greatest hits collection enter the chart at six. Lady Gaga, who scored last week's number one with her concept pop opus Artpop, plummeted to number nine. In the singles chart, Lily Allen claimed the top spot with Somewhere Only We Know - the soundtrack to the John Lewis Christmas advert.
