Cody is the fourth studio album by American punk rock band Joyce Manor, released on 7 October 2016 through Epitaph Records. Cody marks Joyce Manor's first studio release with drummer Jeff Enzor, who had replaced Kurt Walcher. The album was produced by Rob Schnapf, who had previously worked with Elliott Smith and Guided by Voices. Music videos were produced for the songs "Fake . and "Last You Heard Of Me".
Cody is Joyce Manor’s 4th LP, and first with big name producer Rob Schnapf. How did Rob Schnapf impact the recording process? In a cover story for Bandcamp Daily, Schnapf’s process and his contributions were touched on: One of Schnapf’s major contributions was getting the group to marinate on material, rather than blasting it out in a 10-day burst of punk aggression. Together, the band and producer began to experiment with deeper arrangements.
Joyce Manor are the epitome of good music, the pinnacle of sound waves everywhere. These guys are a four-piece pop-punk band from Torrance, California who do everything right. They're catchy as hell, fun, and energetic while still being original and evading redundancy. Lyrically, they're relatable and well-written. Musically, they're tight and well-rounded. They've got a very distinct sound without stereotypes, blandness, or replicas. Their influences could include Jawbreaker, Descendents, Weezer, even Thin Lizzy and The Smiths.
Album · 2016 · 10 Songs. Listen on Apple Music. Pop-punk inflamed with ‘90s indie’s glorious grunginess.
Joyce Manor is a very straightforward band and it is very easy to understand their appeal. Their blend of emo and pop punk with relatable, down to earth lyrics contained to a short runtime have earned the band a considerable fanbase. Cody is a small step down from the excellent Never Hungover Again, but still a respectable album in it’s own right. Cody sees Joyce Manor strip away some of the raw aggression of their previous work and adopt a more streamlined pop-punk style
