Whale and Nightingales was Judy Collins' s third album in a row to receive a gold record, the others being Wildflowers and Who Knows Where the Time Goes. These three extraordinary albums were the apex of her recording career and she had found this large audience by her unerring choice of songs from some of the best contemporary songwriters, finely-tunes arrangements and her remarkable soprano voice. Judy decided she could not really live in . even in Laurel Canyon, and as her tempestuous romance with Stephen Stills was near its end, moved back to New York. Whales and Nightingales," first produced in 1970, has worn very well. I never tire of hearing it. If you enjoy Judy Collins, beautiful melody and the classical touch, you too will enjoy "Whales and Nightingales.
