Bob Florence, Category: Artist, Albums: Gone But Not Forgotten, State of the Art, Friends, Treasures, Heroes, Bongos/Reeds/Brass, Another Side, Biography: As a longtime staff arranger for Liberty Records, Bob Florence wrote some of the most innovative and challenging charts in postwar jazz - in many respects a man out of time, he possessed a particular brilliance for large-ensemble arrangements in the tradition of Duke Ellington, although the commercial vogue for big-band jazz had long since passed. Monthly Listeners: 214, Where People Listen: London, Montreal, Houston, Mexico City, Leeds. But Florence never turned his back completely on jazz, and in 1978 he signed to the Trend label to release the album Live at Concerts by the Sea, the first in a series of critically heralded contemporary big-band efforts. The Tom Kubis Big Band.

Bob Florence Band - Clair de Lune. album: Bongos, Reeds, Brass. Bobby Lamb With Trinity Big Band - BBC (comp, arr Bob Florence). album: Bobby Lamb Meets Trinity Fair.

This is because Bob Florence is arguably the pre-eminent composer/arranger in big band jazz today (and certainly among the top three). But "Eternal Licks and Grooves" (recorded in 2006 or perhaps 2005 - the Cd booklet is not clear), raised even more anticipation among big band afficionados than usual
