Natty Dread is the seventh studio album by Bob Marley and the Wailers, released in 1974. It was the first album released as Bob Marley and the Wailers instead of just the Wailers, the first recorded without Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, and the first recorded with I Threes, a female vocal trio consisting of Marcia Griffiths, Judy Mowatt, and Marley's wife, Rita Marley.

The cream rises to the top with Barry Brown’s much in demand Natty Dread Nah Run on the A-side, a steppers delight with heavy duty echo unit workout pushing the limits of the desk. Supported on the B by a very young Barrington Levy in fine sweet voice and Papa Tullo mopping up the suds with a DJ version riding the same riddim. Track listing: Side one. Natty dread nah run (. 0). Barry Brown1, She rob and gone (. 8).

Natty Dread’ was a soubriquet Marley had recently acquired on the streets of Jamaica thanks to his lengthening locks which, as could be seen in the cover photograph, were beginning to flow as freely as his music. The songs were notable not only for the richness of the melodies and wordplay but also for the vitality and imagination of the harmony arrangements which were supplied by a newly-recruited vocal section the I-Threes, featuring Rita Marley (Bob’s wife), Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt. At the time of recording the album, Marley was at loggerheads with his publisher, Cayman Music, a company owned by Danny Sims, who had also been his manager for a while in 1972.
