Chance of Rain is the second studio album by American electronic music artist Laurel Halo. It was released on October 28, 2013 by Hyperdub. It is an instrumental album and the second release of 2013, alongside her extended play Behind the Green Door, that does not feature vocals. The album cover is the work of Halo's father, Arthur Chartow, drawn in 1970s.

Laurel Halo - Chance Of Rain (2013).

Electronic musican Laurel Halo's releases since 2012's Quarantine can be read as a reaction to that album and its reception, as she has steadily retreated from that album's vocally oriented post-pop into the harsh instrumental strictures of techno. Her second album, the dynamic, bracing Chance of Rain, continues this transition.

Don’t be fooled by the genteel, dinner jazz-ish organ pieces that open and close ‘Chance of Rain’, the second album by Michigan-born experimental techno and ambient producer Laurel Halo. Those two bookends are pretty much the only time you’ll be kicking back on this deep journey into abstract electronica and twitchy soundscapes. We’ll be honest: ‘Chance of Rain’ is not an easy listen.

During the first half of 2013, Laurel Halo followed Quarantine, a polarizing album placed at number one on The Wire's releases of the year feature for 2012, with her second and third releases for Hyperdub. First, there was "Sunlight on the Faded," an inviting vocal track, and then there was the Behind the Green Door, an alternately raw and oddly pacifying four-track EP of instrumentals. The latter pointed the way toward Chance of Rain, which doesn't seem to have any thematic continuity with Halo's gleaming Hour Logic highlight "Speed of Rain.

When I first listened to 'Chance of Rain', I obviously felt the total difference between the two albums.
