Written-By – Carl Craig (tracks: 1 to 11, 15 to 16). Notes. Future R&B, deep house, and even scat color the mix. The elements that make the Innerzone Orchestra album falter are thankfully absent, and the album's high points-such as the Derrick May collaboration "Frustration"-are well worth the wait. I just wish Craig would relax a little. He tries too hard to be provocative, and ends up sounding pretentious. Reply Notify me 2 Helpful.

Album Formerly Known As. Import. Unlike Much Of The Early Lo-Fi Detroit Techno, This Album Still Stands Up Both Content And Production-Wise Against The Majority Of New Releases And Is Possibly Mr Craig's Finest Hour. Essential! Go Unlimited.

Met with a muddled chorus of hisses and hurrahs, Carl Craig's 2005 overhaul of 1995's Landcruising is, for a lot of Detroit techno and IDM heads, a divisive issue and a possibly baffling way to look back at a touchstone. Rest assured, Craig knew exactly what wrongs to right

Any sellers in U.k please email me. Thanks very much.

Looks like the sellers of this and an other(De$$$troit)7" are using the Detroit tag to make a quick buck, that's imo! Don't give these chancers your cash there are plenty other good records on DG and Ebay or in your local record shop, for decent prices, from sellers who love music.(Period)

Nothing wildly exciting, MT40 is a mellow house track while the Detroit Love Theme is Carl's take on the Stalag riddim. A bit of an expensive collectable, $10 would have been a fair price, I had to pay 5x that. What with Moodymann all these Detroit cats seem to be a bunch of crooks that churn out some nice music which they know people will have to be prepared to get gouged on in order to get hold of them...

Just in case you missed it, here's some clarity on the release:https://djmag.com/news/carl-craig-speaks-out-new-detroit-pressing-plant-collaboration

He is not happy that copies are being sold on Discogs but only allows it to be sold at one store in the world, how stupid can you get. We are not all globetrotting international DJs who get to travel all over the world buying records when we feel like Carl!

Moanerman: this isn't the info most people have on these releases. The Third Man site states that the two Carl Craig tracks are new compositions so these don't appear to be edited versions of classics as you suggest? I'm not sure what the Derrick May A-side is but the B-side is,something to do with Rennie Foster. Do you have a link to the article you referred to in your post?

How can I get hold of this? I can't find it online...

Go to the event or buy one second hand...I wanted one bad enough so I flew there to buy it. If you can't get away to take time out of your live to buy it...then you will have to pay someone who did.

openplan Well said. I had the same reaction: frustration, but also satisfaction that TMP is doing this (and for local artists, to boot).

Of course its easy to say that but at the same time they could have quite easily boosted regeneration and pressed up a few hundred more copies and made them available to people who do not live in Detroit, I'm not even allowed in their fucking country so however much I want to go there and buy one I never could. I'll end up getting one on eBay or Discogs and pay maybe £50 a copy, so all it means is someone who is able to go to the site for their opening is going to make a little money off it and they get an inflated ego on how much the second hand market is on their limited releases. Quite disappointing, in my book that is definitely gimmicky.

I sympathise with your frustration (I phoned up from the UK to Detroit on Saturday to try to get one), but even though I have mixed feelings about Record Store Day these days, I'm not sure I'd agree with the view that this sort of instore only is a sad gimmick. Third Man are doing a lot to regenerate that part of Detroit that their store's in, and we all know it's a city with a lot of challenges that's given us a lot of amazing music. (Mark Binelli's book 'The Last Days of Detroit' is a fairly good way to get some context). So while an instore only release is a pain in the ass for those of us who live in other countries, I have a lot of respect for what they're doing by opening up a pressing plant, and the fact that a bunch of local musicians and producers are supporting it - i.e. it's good to see Derrick and Carl working with them as well as the more alternative / indie folks that are usually associated more with Third Man.

La_Monte_Old kuma.chan, from what I read these are just short versions of classics, I don't know which ones but who gives a shit, they did a 7" with Derrick May classics too. It's just one of those many elitary hipster fashion exclusive blablabla bullshit things where the artificial collecting value is 10x bigger than the musical value. Another example is the FWWM OST repress which you can find on CD in every sales bin for 2 EUR but people are paying top money for the repress just because it's on f*cking vinyl (with horrible artwork and sound quality on top of that). It's a sad trend but I see that you guys are really going bananas and are ready to pay whatever it takes to obtain these needless marketing products. That's pretty sad that they still do these kind of gimmicks which exclude 99% of the people who would be interested in this release. So is it any good? It claims this is the first Carl Craig 7" but I have at least two different Planet E 7"s, I was assuming it might be a repress of one of those...

It was a special release just for the opening party / in-store for the Third Man pressing plant in Detroit on Sat 25 Feb 2017. For more details (and a great picture of Derrick May and Jack White) see http://www.theoaklandpress.com/arts-and-entertainment/20170225/jack-white-third-man-pressing-celebrates-opening-with-party - so think of it as a Detroit-only version of Record Store Day. I just called Third Man and was told that they were just being sold in-store on the day (and had heard elsewhere that this and the Transmat 7" both sold out quick though haven't been able to verify that). So if you want to track one down, you'll probably have to use some sort of online auction site :( I just did.
