Back on the Chain Gang The Pretenders Live in New York with lyrics.
Pretenders is the debut studio album by British-American band The Pretenders, released on 7 January 1980 under Real Records in the UK, and Sire Records in the United States. A combination of rock, punk and pop music, this album made the band famous. The album features the singles "Stop Your Sobbing", "Kid" and "Brass in Pocket". Nick Lowe produced the Pretenders' first single, "Stop Your Sobbing", but decided not to work with them again as he thought the band was "not going anywhere".
Guitarist James Honeyman-Scott never plays conventional riffs or leads, and his phased, treated guitar gives new dimension to the pounding rhythms of "Precious," "Tattooed Love Boys," "Up the Neck," and "The Wait," as well as the more measured pop of "Kid," "Brass in Pocket," and "Mystery Achievement. He provides the perfect backing for Hynde and her tough, sexy swagger.
The Pretenders are a transatlantic rock band that formed in Hereford England in March 1978. Despite a great deal of turmoil throughout their career, the band has remained a chart-topping success, for the last three decades. Chrissie Hynde, originally from Akron, Ohio, moved to London in 1973, and worked at the prestigious NME and also at Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood’s clothes store. The Pretenders formed in 1978 after Dave Hill at Anchor Records heard a couple of Hynde’s demos. The second full-length album, Pretenders II was released on August 15th, 1981, and became such a huge success making it to number 7 in the UK Album Chart. It was a dark time for the band, with Farndon being fired by Hynde, and then two days later, on June 16th 1982, James Honeyman-Scott died of Heart failure as a result of cocaine intolerance.
I just want, I want, I want to see the light, she sings, delivering the hook with a smokey croon.

Guest John Sebastian's harmonica wasn't even captured in the original mix; producer Bruce Botnick brought him back to the studio this year to replay the solos, based on what they got from tape bleed. Why go to the trouble? Because this is the truth
