Titok is the second ECM album by Ferenc Snétberger. It follows the In Concert, recorded at Budapest’s Franz List Academy of Music ( A beautiful, assured performance All About Jazz). Anders Jormin and Joey Baron have appeared on many ECM records, but Titok marks the first time they have played together on a session for the label (they have periodically crossed paths in live contexts playing for instance in trio with the late John Taylor).

1 4. Excellent jazz album!!!! 1. 8. The Hungarian acoustic guitarist Ferenc Snétberger’s last album (also on ECM) was a solo affair recorded in concert. This time he is in the Rainbow Studio in Oslo with Anders Jormin on double bass and Joey Baron on drums. All the music is written by Snétberger and all 13 tracks are fairly concise

Ferenc Snétberger performed Luciano Berios Sequenza XI (for solo guitar) as well as concertos with orchestra by Vivaldi, Rodrigo, and John McLaughlin. He also wrote music for film and theater. In 2005 he was awarded the Liszt Ferenc Prize in Budapest, 2013 the Prima Díj, 2014 the Kossuth Díj. In 2004 Snétberger founded his new trio with legendary Norwegian bass player Arild Andersen and Norway-based Italian t Paolo Vinaccia. 2016 was the release of Snétbergers last solo ablum In Concert and one year later the new Trio album Titok with Anders Jorman on bass and drummer Joey Baron at the prestigious label ecm records.

Titok’ is another engaging look at Ferenc Snétberger’s singing acoustic guitar tone, and substantial improvisational ideas. Titok’ is a lovely little album with a nice mix of more exploratory pieces as well as shorter, charming compositions. Lets hope we hear more from this dazzling trio in the years to come. Pete Pardo, Sea of Tranquility.
