Also released in December was the live album In a Hole, recorded during the Fall's tour of New Zealand in 1982, on Flying Nun Records.
It was released on 12 December 1983 through Rough Trade Records. However, the bulk of the album was recorded before she had joined the band.
Punk may have been the initial spark for the Fall, but by 1983 they had made it clear that whatever trend was next was not for them.
Exclusively for Prime members. Sample this album Artist (Sample). I now consider this to be the Fall's best studio album (followed closely by Your Future Our Clutter). In 1982, the Fall had a remarkable lineup, including 2 blazing guitarists and 2 drummers. They had a full, almost too full sound at times, and were a juggernaut of a band. At the end of this year, Mark E. Smith sacked one of the guitarists (Marc Riley),and the Fall now had one guitarist and 2 drummers. This created a new sound and a new way of writing material. The material on this 1983 album has much more space and a greater sense of dynamics and tension. The lyrics are MES' best.

Most of the music on the album was recorded without her, but her contribution – the sweet, youthful vocals on Hotel Bloedel – gives you an idea of what The Fall would have sounded like if it had been fronted by a woman who could actually sing in tune.
