A disco song which called to mind the gaudy gold furnishing of Studio 54, the hedonism of the late 70s gay scene and a glitter ball spinning endlessly into musical infinity. Hercules front man Andy Butler managed a rare feat: a four to the floor thumper that sounded authentically steeped in the past, but also revelatory and fresh. Charmer’, along with the rest of the tracks on that album (‘Because Of The Times’), proved that KOL were still arguably one of the best things in American rock at the time. Over the years, Art Brut have carved out a left-of-centre niche, fighting the indie fight, old-school style. But when they play this, it reminds us that back when they had just formed a band, they had a ramshackle fire and a way with an Elastica-raw riff that made them seem if not quite dangerous then, well, pretty thrilling.

To celebrate, they’ve published their list of the 150 best songs of the last 15 years. The list is heavy on the Brit-rock that NME understandably favors, and the weird time-frame (1996 to 2011) means there’s a wide breadth of stuff to choose from. Radiohead figures heavily on the list, with five songs placing and Paranoid Android appearing in the top spot.

The first country album to sell a million copies featured many previously released songs by Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Tompall Glaser and Jennings' wife Jessi Colter. But unifying the songs under the theme of outlaw country - a concept gaining national traction - made this album a runaway hit. A big part of that was due to the perfect cover art, depicting all the singers as dangerous, wanted outlaws from the Old West. The cover art goes a long way toward conveying Williams' vision of the American south as a place of lonely strength. The small home at the end of a dirt road isn't depicted as a middle-of-nowhere shack - instead, the lush colors of the landscape and the glowing porch lights give it a solitary dignity and homey allure.

An album is a collection of audio recordings issued as a collection on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium. Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century as individual 78-rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl LP records played at 33 1⁄3 rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though album sales in the 21st-century have mostly focused on CD and MP3 formats.

The title and cover art of the quartet's third album evoked a Middle Earth sunset, with the music wavering between medieval folk melodies and jazz-savvy musos rocking out over what bassist Richard Sinclair called "a load of words that half mean something. Side one consisted of short, charming songs like "Golf Girl," the Tolkien-y "Winter Wine" and the surreal Boy Scout ramble of the title track; but side two was solely devoted to "Nine Feet Underground," a 22-minute, eight-part suite with Zappa-esque subtitles - .
