This album marked the end of Kool & the Gang's 15-year association with De-Lite Records. Impressively, the group charted each of those 15 years, including ten number one singles. Emergency continued that tradition, and was responsible for two of those number one singles. The first release, "Misled," with its crackin' bassline, led the charge; it peaked at number three on the Billboard R&B charts.
Producer – Kool & The Gang. Trombone – Clifford Adams. Trumpet – Michael Ray, Robert "Spike" Mickens. Recorded at Compass Point Studios, Nassau, Bahamas & The House Of Music, West Orange, New Jersey. Mastered at Sterling Stound. this album starts out SO strong, really funky and catchy, then goes horribly pear shaped on side 2. Although they are each about a minute and half too long, the three big cuts on the album, tracks 1, 2, and 4 ("Emergency ", "Fresh" and "Cherish"), are definitely worth the price of admission. They still make me smile after all these years, although, as I said they are all a little long winded at an average of almost 5 minutes each

Kool and the Gang’s Emergency was released in 1984 as the Gang was in the middle of a hot streak. Their five previous studio albums all went platinum and spun off numerous pop, R&B and dance hits. Kool and the Gang brilliantly combined R&B and commercial pop and the results were mesmerizing. Emergency catches the band at their peak and is possibly a defining moment in their 40 year plus career. Side one (as it was back when the album was released on vinyl) contained 4 back to back Top 10 smashes
