Michael Delaney Dowd Jr. (August 11, 1920 – August 11, 2006), known as Mike Douglas, was an American "Big Band" era singer, entertainer, television talk show host (The Mike Douglas Show), and actor. He began singing as a choirboy. By his teens he was working as a singer on a Lake Michigan dinner cruise ship. After serving in the United States Navy in World War II and as a "staff singer" for WMAQ-TV in Chicago, he moved to Los Angeles. He was on the Ginny Simms radio show.

The Mike Douglas Show was an American daytime television talk show that was hosted by Mike Douglas. Initially, it aired only in Cleveland during much of its first two years, followed by expansion to Philadelphia and nationwide. It went into syndication in 1963 and remained on television until 1981. It was distributed by Westinghouse Broadcasting, and for much of its run, originated from studios of two of the company's TV stations in Cleveland and Philadelphia.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a comic science fiction series created by Douglas Adams that has become popular among fans of the genre(s) and members of the scientific community. Phrases from it are widely recognised and often used in reference to, but outside the context of, the source material. Many writers on popular science, such as Fred Alan Wolf, Paul Davies and Michio Kaku, have used quotations in their books to illustrate facts about cosmology or philosophy.

Flashback: The ‘Star Wars’ Cast Appears on ‘The Mike Douglas Show’ in 1977. Star Wars is almost like an updated Bob Hope/Bing Crosby road picture, said the talk show host. The summer of 1977 was a particularly insane time in American history. The Son of Sam killer was terrorizing women across New York City, a massive flood in Johnstown, Pennsylvania killed 85 people, Elvis Presley and Groucho Marx died days apart and a blackout turned Manhattan into a scene straight out of a dystopian science fiction movie. A new film called Star Wars also hit theaters. It’s not real serious. A couple of million Star Wars fans probably have a different opinion about the seriousness of the movie. Mark Hamill revealed that George Lucas had two sets of lead actors in mind for the film. If they had gone another way, none of us would be here, he said. They weren’t mixing and matching.

The Mike Douglas Show was a variety show out of Cleveland OH and then Philadelphia PA, broadcast in the daytime. It's structure was similar to The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and The Merv Griffin Show and was very popular in its time. Mike Douglas was no relation to Michael nor Kirk Douglas. When I was a teenager and Mike had his show (live) in Cleveland 5 days per week, my friends and I made the trip to KYW TV-3 at least twice a year.

Mike Douglas was not the epitome of "hip". So it is kind of surprising he would want John and Yoko - from their wildest early "movement" days - to be on his show as co-hosts for an entire week. But this is what we have here. It is odd television, to say the least, from the moment Mike walks out on Day 1 and sings "Michelle" - probably thinking he's paying homage to John Lennon, not knowing it was Paul McCartney's song. John saves the day, though, telling Mike that he wrote the middle eight, "so it's all right". There are a lot of weird.

Professional skier, Producer/Director Switchback Entertainment, Dad, Husband, Godfather, Pleasure enthusiast. The snowpack was fat that year and we played the weather perfectly. On the first anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks in New York, we set up a shot on what turned out to be my only known first descent - a couloir above the Plateau lift that only fills in on the biggest snow years. The long-time locals told me they'd never seen anyone ski it before and that I had to give it a name. Since I skied it on September 11, 2002, I called it the 911 couloir. From what I understand, it's now been descended a handful of times on the fat years since then
