Ralph Towner Solstice Ralph Towner: 12-string and classical guitars, piano Jan Garbarek: tenor and soprano saxophones, flute Eberhard Weber: bass . Perfect Sound Forever: The LP is not only one of the moodiest ever published by ECM, but by anyone

Ralph Towner, Eberhard Weber (bass), Jan Garbarek (sax), and Jon Christensen (drums) sounded wonderful together. They had a unique sound, led by Towner's guitar and piano. It is chamber music played by jazz musicians. All the music was composed by Towner. Three of the 5 tracks would be played by his main group Oregon. This group recorded their first album, Solstice, in 1975. Sound and Shadows was recorded in 1977. I bought the album on vinyl in the late 1970s and it still sounds great. The interplay between the musicians is superb and the music has real depth. It took me a while to get into and I still hear new things decades later. Unfortunately, this was the group's last album together.
