The Osmonds are an American family pop group who achieved enormous worldwide success as teenage music idols in the 1970s. The group originally comprised brothers Alan Ralph Osmond (born June 22, 1949), (Melvin) Wayne Osmond (born August 28, 1951), Merrill Davis Osmond (born April 30, 1953), Jay Wesley Osmond (born March 2, 1955) and Donny (Donald) Clark Osmond (born December 9, 1957).

With audiences less choreographed and malleable than they would become in later years (a downside of the subsequent Around the World live album), this is the sound of teenaged mania at its purest and its rawest, a never-ending barrage of screaming, keening ecstasy that is already peaking before the band even takes the stage, and continues on its merry, maddening. way long after the last roadie has left the building

For the self-titled album, see Osmonds (album) As of 2019, The Osmond Brothers as a group is composed of original members Merrill and Jay, along with Alan's son, David Osmond (who had minor success both as lead singer of a "second generation" of The Osmonds and as a solo artist); they are occasionally joined by Marie, who will end an 11-year Las Vegas residency with Donny. Their first album under Polydor was the album Brainstorm; that album sold only slightly better than its predecessor, and its lead single, "I Can't Live a Dream," fell short of the top 40. Polydor would release two more albums from the family (a Christmas album that included all of the performing family members, and a greatest hits compilation). The Osmonds poured themselves into a new venture: the older brothers began producing The Donny & Marie Show which was a hit on ABC from 1976–1979. But the success came at a cost.
