Plain Rap is the third studio album by Los Angeles hip hop group The Pharcyde. The album was released on November 7, 2000 on Delicious Vinyl through Edel America Records (now known as earMUSIC). The album features production from Showbiz of . J-Swift and the group themselves as well as features lonely guest from Black Thought.

In 1995, The Pharcyde released their second album, Labcabincalifornia. The album included another big crossover hit, "Runnin'", peaking at No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100. This single was later featured in the movie 8 Mile, as well as the More Music from 8 Mile soundtrack. Labcabincalifornia featured production from producers Jay Dee (who handled the majority of the production). The group released a full studio album later in 2000 titled Plain Rap. The album had a lukewarm reception both critically and commercially. Soon after the release, member Slimkid3, now going by his birth name of Tre Hardson, left the group to pursue a solo career. In 2002, he released his first solo album titled Liberation. The album was released on November 7, 2000 on Edeltone Records. J-Swift and the group themselves. In late 2000, the Pharcyde resurfaced for their first major release since 1995. Having lost the lazy-flowed Fat Lip to a solo career, the original trio of Slim Kid Tre, Imani, and Booty Brown were left to carry the torch. in 1992 and followed up with the superbly crafted but somewhat maligned LabCabincalifornia in 1995.

Plain Rap lacks the talents of Fatlip and Slimkid and it shows. The smart, polished Pharcyde backings - rich in jazz and rare groove - are still in evidence, but it's easy to miss the gawky verbals of all four rappers.

Once again, The Pharcyde returns with a third album, Plain Rap. As the title explains, the songs are really plain and modern. Here, Fatlip is no longer in the group and remains Imani, Bootie Brown & Slimkid3. But, it made only one single, Trust and the change of the label, from Delicious Vinyl to Edeltone Records (Edel America/Edel AG Records).

The Pharcyde have reason to be mad at R&B in the 21st century – and if they ever catch up to Joe and Mystikal they’ll probably be saying .In trying to break with the tired cliches of jiggyness and thuggery dominating the airwaves, they cleverly titled their album Plain Rap and actually wrapped it with a paper-bag look-a-like sleeve (the same type of sleeve seen on Wu-Tang Forever and Freddie Foxxx’s Industry Shakedown ). The tracklist on the back cover looks like a printout from your local grocery store, and the liner notes on the inside feature shots of the album’s tracks as organic navel Network oranges and Trust (Remix) pizza.
