I had this masterpiece on 8 track tape as a teenager and most likely played it until it wore out!John Dawson Winter is without a doubt one of the very best blues/rock guitarist,s to ever pick up the instrument. Please listen closely as not to miss the fine interplay between Johnny and Rick Derringer as they fuel each other to. play more intensely. I guarantee this one is no disappointment,as it covers the whole blues/rock spectrum. Reply Notify me Helpful.

After two late-'60s albums on Columbia, Johnny Winter hit his stride in 1970 working with Rick Derringer and the McCoys, now recruited as his sidemen and collaborators (and proving with just about every note here how far they'd gotten past "Hang on Sloopy"). In place of the bluesy focus on his first two albums, Winter extended himself into more of a rock-oriented mode here, in both his singing and his selection of material. This was hard rock with a blues edge, and had a certain commercial smoothness lacking in his earlier work.

The album JOHNNY WINTER AND provides guitar purists with one of rock's great guitar ballads, LET THE MUSIC PLAY. From the moment the first Am is strummed, the guitar player knows this song is a serious attempt at classic rock guitar. Winter and fellow guitarist, former McCoy's guitarist, Rick Derringer take the listener into a soulful journey of guitar playing that actually over power the lyrics of the song.

Live Johnny Winter And is an album by Johnny Winter, recorded live during the fall of 1970 at the Fillmore East in New York City and at Pirate's World in Dania, Florida. It was released in March 1971. In addition to Winter himself, the band known as Johnny Winter And included guitarist Rick Derringer and bassist Randy Jo Hobbs, both former members of the McCoys, and drummer Bobby Caldwell. Caldwell had replaced another ex-McCoy, Rick Derringer's brother Randy Zehringer, after the group recorded their eponymous studio album a few months earlier
