The Rose that Grew from Concrete The poetry of Tupac Shakur Name: Date/ Block Questions to Consider The Rose That Grew From Concrete By Tupac Shakur Poem 1: The Rose That Grew From Concrete 1. Who is the rose in the poem, and what does the concrete symbolize? Did you hear about the rose that grew From a crack in the concrete? Proving nature's law is wrong it Learned to walk with out having feet. The album went platinum, selling more than a million copies. Around this time, Shakur also appeared in several films, including Poetic Justice (1993) opposite Janet Jackson. CONTROVERSY 2Pac became quite a sensation, earning praise for his musical and acting talent as well as condemnation for his explicit, violent lyrics.

In the first line, the poet raises a rhetorical question, Did you hear about the rose drawing reader’s attention towards a rose plant that grew from a crack in the concrete. Concrete is used in the buildings and is quite hard. It cannot be broken down easily and one can easily hurt himself if he tries to break it. In the poem, concrete symbolises Ghetto or probably the slum area which is occupied by the poor section of people. Crimes, scarcity, diseases, violence and other bad things are quite common in such an area
