Thijs van Leer (pronounced: /tɛis vɑn leːr/; born 31 March 1948) is a Dutch musician, singer, songwriter, composer and producer, best known as the founding member of the rock band Focus as its primary vocalist, keyboardist, and flautist. Born and raised in Amsterdam among a musical family, van Leer took up the piano and flute as a child and pursued them at university and music academies.

Jan Akkerman were obviously on their classic albums. So this 1985 album is basically Focus updated for the 1980s. They included a bunch of musicians helping them out, so you get 1980s drum machines and Thijs van Leer, luckily still using his flute, but not the Hammond organ, but instead the Yamaha DX-7. Russian Roulette" sounds like something out of In & Out of Focus, had it been recorded in 1985. King Kong" is actually a nice piece, despite the drum machine, especially the flute playing.

3. "Who's Calling?" Thijs van Leer/Jan Akkerman. Mother Focus is the fifth studio album by the band Focus, released in 1975 on Atco Records. Some tracks on the album mark a departure from the progressive rock style that dominated the group's prior work, and herald a funk music style with light jazz and pop at the centre. Bassist Bert Ruiter provided most of the themes, as van Leer had just recorded a solo album, O My Love, of his own music, and Jan Akkerman withheld compositions for his forthcoming solo album Eli. Thijs van Leer

Thijs van Leer/Rosalie van Leer. 5. "Beethoven's Revenge". 7. Thijs van Leer – keyboards, flute, vocals.

The duo that made Focus what they were hadn't recorded together for ten years previous to this release, and it shows. A staggering inability to write material of the quality found in earlier albums is present throughout the synth-laden Focus.

That is Jan Akkerman and Thijs van Leer with a host of anonymous musicians backing them up. Well, '70s Focus fans expecting a continuation of Moving Waves, Focus 3, or Hamburger Concerto will probably want to pass on this. This album is totally 1985. Okay, this is not the best Focus album but it is of interest to any Focus fan and collector. It is the last collaboration between Thijs Van Leer and Jan Akkerman. Although Van Leer has re-formed focus in the past decade, he has never been able to lure Jan Akkeman back into the fold but instead has chosen to replace him with younger similar sounding guitarists. This album features Thijs and Jan playing just about all of the instruments with some touches from a few guests. Although it is heavy on the electronics, one can still hear the mastery of Van Leer and Akkerman shine through.
