Bobby Caldwell (reissued on CD as What You Won't Do for Love) is the debut album by singer and songwriter Bobby Caldwell. The album was released in 1978 on the Clouds imprint of TK Records. All tracks written by Bobby Caldwell except where noted. Bobby Caldwell – vocals, keyboards, guitar, bass. Benny Latimore – keyboards. Alfons Kettner – guitar. Steve Mealy – guitar. George "Chocolate" Perry– bass. Richie Velazquez – bass.

Hard Bop was mainly being developed on the east coast of the United States and it was a more aggressive, gospel and blues infused style than its counterpart genre, cool jazz, which was predominately being developed on the west coast during the same time period. When talking about Hard Bop it’s important to mention pianist Horace Silver. This album is an iconic Horace album and has elements of latin groove influence. This one was released in 1965. Personnel also includes Carmell Jones and Blue Mitchell on trumpets, Teddy Smith and Gene Taylor on bass, Roy Brooks and Rodger Humphries on drums, Joe Henderson and Junior Cook on tenor sax.

Robert Hunter Caldwell (born August 15, 1951) is an American singer and songwriter who recorded the hit single "What You Won't Do for Love" in 1978. After several R&B and smooth jazz albums, Caldwell turned to singing standards from the Great American Songbook. He maintains a loyal following in Japan. Bobby Caldwell was born in Manhattan but grew up in Miami. His mother sold real estate, and one of her clients was reggae singer Bob Marley; Caldwell and Marley became friends.

Well From the moment this machine is booted BOP begins buzzing with kinetic warmth. With broken rhythms and jagged textures, he pieces together tunes of emotive beauty. The result is undeniably playful and delightfully odd, something like songs of love sung by robots. Through its wavy ambience runs a current of aural ephemera - bits of speech samples, bossa riffs, and R&B with opaque origins.
