In August of 1982, tenor saxophonist Eddie Harris, bassist Larry Gales, pianist Bill Henderson, and drummer Carl Burnette recorded a number of tunes in a Hollywood recording studio. The album showcases Harris' versatility, improvisational skill, and mastery of tone. The first track, "Listen Here," is a Harris original and probably his biggest hit. It has a funky straight eighth note feel that is enthusiastically propelled by a melodic bassline, comping piano chords, and syncopating drum groove

It ignited Harris’ imagination, and The Electrifying Eddie Harris is a consummation of love for his new toy. The Varitone didn’t alter the saxophonist’s naturally husky tone, but instead offered it a ballsy edge and freaky effects like tremolo and echo. Harris was especially fond of the octave function, which doubled every note with a ghostly, rumbling undertone. In the transformative year of 1967, when both jazz and rock were the midst of massive mutation, Eddie Harris undertook his own personal revolution as one of the only musicians to adopt the electric saxophone. Developed in 1965 by H & A Selmer In. the Varitone featured an electronic pickup system that applied a number of different effects to the sound of the standard sax. It ignited Harris’ imagination, and The Electrifying Eddie Harris is a consummation of love for his new toy.

The Eddie Harris Piano Classics consists of 24 Eddie Harris compositions, for the moderately skilled player, that have been arranged for solo piano by David Berger. The arrangements of the compositions consist of three staves. The top stave is a lead sheet of each compositions as to exactly how Eddie played it. The bottom two staves consist of a piano arrangement that present the essence of the groove and harmonic sense of each composition. The compositions are written to provide the rhythmic pulse and harmonies using just the piano since all 24 compositions were originally recorded with full.

Eddie Harris (October 20, 1934 - November 5, 1996), was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. Although he was one of the most popular jazz musicians of his day (and the first to receive a gold record), his inclusion in his repertoire of types of music other than jazz and his incorporation of comedy into his act led many jazz critics to consider him insufficiently committed to jazz.
