Where’d they come up with the name ‘Canned Heat?’ The name of the group comes from an old blues song by Tommy Johnson, called ‘Canned Heat Blues’ about a guy so down on his luck that he turns to drinking Sterno, to dull his pain.
Originally released in Europe, this features a reconstituted Canned Heat lineup from 1988. Drummer Fito de la Parra and bassist Larry Taylor are the only two left over from the old days, but that doesn't seem much of a problem here, as top-flight guitar work from Junior Watson and James Thornbury drives these songs right along.

Canned Heat is the 1967 debut album by Canned Heat. It was released shortly after their appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival, and features performances of several blues covers.
