Supersilent is a Norwegian ational music group formed at Nattjazz in Bergen in 1997 when the trio Veslefrekk was asked to play with Deathprod. The meeting of experimental jazz groups with Helge Sten's rumbling drones and noise was so successful that the quartet Supersilent appeared. That same year, their triple debut album 1-3 was released as the first release on the record label Rune Grammofon.

Norway's Supersilent is a supremely questing experimental jazz unit. Whether playing live or recording a new entry in their numbered series of albums for Rune Grammofon/ECM, they don't rehearse or make plans. Instead, they convene and explore, following their collective muse into sound-worlds that seldom fail to seem conceptually centered, despite their spontaneous nature. Happily, they've bounced back strong for 10 and 11. The latter is a mite uneven, collecting leftovers from the sessions for Supersilent 8 in a vinyl-only format. The former is arguably the finest and most coherent piece of music they've ever recorded.

Although returning to familiar instrumentation with 10, Supersilent have once again made a significant aesthetic departure. With Sten on guitar and electronics, Ståle Storløkken on piano and keyboards, and Arve Henriksen on trumpet and electronics, 10 is the second recorded document since the quartet became a trio. Minimal and arctic yet vibrant and embracing, these 12 pieces are the group’s most engaging and mesmeric.

It’s fair to say that if you’ve never heard Norwegian band Supersilent before, you probably won’t mourn the departure of their drummer, not on this evidence anyway. Now a trio, their tenth album is as unencumbered by rhythm as it is by track titles. All of these improvised pieces fit somewhere between jazz and ambient, often sounding like music for a lost film

Supersilent are Trumpeter Arve Henriksen, tape experimenter Helge Sten (aka Deathprod), and Stale Storløkken on keyboards. ンバー: Arve Henriksen, Helge Sten, Jarle Vespestad, Ståle Storløkken.
