MONO, STEREO 24 BIT DIGITALLY REMASTERED Includes 10 tracks + the album Jazz Wave Although saxophonist Med Flory (1926-2014) was associated with the West Coast jazz scene for most of his life, he started his career in New York in 1950, playing with the bands of Claude Thornhill, Art Mooney, Woody Herman and Tommy Tucker. In 1954 he had his own band there and he did his recording debut as a leader for Mercury s jazz label, EmArcy. This compilation closes with two tracks by a saxophone band that Med Flory formed in 1959, called The Sax Maniacs, a concept he would revisit later with his renowned band Supersax.
The Band is the second studio album by the Band, released on September 22, 1969. It is also known as The Brown Album. According to Rob Bowman's liner notes for the 2000 reissue, The Band has been viewed as a concept album, with the songs focusing on people, places and traditions associated with an older version of Americana.
When the group ended its run in 1962, most big-band enthusiasts thought they'd never see its like again.
