Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony in F Minor, Op. 36 Mov. 4: Finale: Allegro con fuoco The London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by George Szell.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36, was written between 1877 and 1878. Its first performance was at a Russian Musical Society concert in Moscow on February 22 (or the 10th using the calendar of the time), 1878, with Nikolai Rubinstein as conductor. In Middle Europe it sometimes receives the nickname "Fatum", or "Fate"

Opus/Catalogue NumberOp. First mentioned in a letter to v. Meck in May 1877, as having been begun during the preceding winter. Symphonies by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. N. in G minor, O. 3 (1866–68, re. 874), "Winter Dreams". in C minor, O. 7 (1872, re. 879–80), "Little Russian". in D major, O. 9 (1875), "Polish". in F minor, O. 6 (1877–78). Manfred, O. 8 (1885). in E minor, O. 4 (1888).

Symphony No. 4 In F Minor, p. 36 (1). 1. Andante Sostenuto - Moderate Con Anima. 2. Andantino In Modo Di Canzona. Conductor – Evgeni Svetlanov. Orchestra – Russian State Symphony Orchestra.

After all, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 is itself characterful, sentimental, forceful, and far less than completely coherent, and Svetlanov and the USSR Symphony performs it as if hand-wringing hysteria was an interpretive stance. Similarly, Tchaikovsky's symphonic poem Fatum is itself a way-over-the-top piece of orchestral neurosis and Svetlanov and the USSR Symphony perform it as if on the edge of a nervous breakdown.
