Beggars in Spain and its sequels take place in a future where genetic engineering has become a reality, and society and culture face the consequences of genetic modifications (genemods), particularly in the United States. The world of Beggars in Spain is also powered by cold fusion, named "Y-energy" after its pioneer Kenzo Yagai. The Sleepless daughter of a movie star and an Arab oil tycoon, Jennifer's money purchases land in upstate New York (Cattaraugus County, specifically) to create a Sleepless-only community known as Sanctuary. Finally, Leisha faces rocky relations with her twin sister Alice. By sheer chance, Elizabeth conceived a natural daughter at the same time Leisha was implanted in vitro, resulting in fraternal twins, only one of whom is Sleepless.

Growing up in New Jersey, the two didn’t have much of an audience for their music, save for their high school classmates and (usually sound-asleep) families. It was around then that they coined their name– Beggars because they set up their own basement shows with Teengirl Fantasy and Pictureplane, and in a New Land for their unconventional approach. When Brody moved to New York to attend NYU, Cubberly stayed in New Jersey, but they kept composing together by sending samples back and forth over e-mail. BRODY: But the one thing that we’ve always tried to do is to not touch the computer at all while we’re performing, and to only use our pads and our knobs and our boards so we can keep it more dynamic. SMALL: So you still have the performance element. For more on beggars in a new land, visit their faceboook page.

Pathfinder is a music studio album recording by BEGGARS OPERA (Symphonic Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1972 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. The album may have been a touch radio friendly but almost every artist has gone through a period like that, and there are some downright inspired passages here that deserve attention, surely having had impact on the British post-underground scenes of the 1970s.

Are you pleased with the moves you made and do you envisage the need to continue to look ahead? We have always thought long, hard and repeatedly about such stuff. They had a number one album with Fat Of The Land in twenty-seven different countries and it sold in excess of seven million records. That’s someone making music completely on their own terms, and succeeding beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. On the other hand, it’s as rewarding to work with someone like Efterklang where their sights are set at a very different level.
