Features Song Lyrics for Talk Talk's The Collection album.
There are as many reservations with 2000's The Collection as there are with 1990's Natural History. Functioning as a one-stop purchase for those wanting to go a bit deeper than the '80s various-artists compilation staple "It's My Life," this does a good job of replacing the earlier highlights package. Although this doesn't contain anything from 1988's Spirit of Eden, it tops Natural History by including "It's Getting Late in the Evening," "Pictures of Bernadette," "Without You," and "Strike Up the Band," fine.
Beyond the Sunset is a Blackmore's Night compilation album released in 2004 through Steamhammer. It is named after the song "Beyond the Sunset" by Blackmore’s Night from their 1999 album Under a Violet Moon. This compilation was derived from their four studio albums released at that point except for one previously unreleased track; "Once In A Million Years", and also contains two re-recorded tracks: "Ghost of a Rose" and "Now and Then".
If only Talk Talk’s record label felt the same way. What if the massive EMI corporation had known that when Talk Talk delivered the masters to Spirit of Eden in the spring of 1988, the record would be a once and future marvel of pop music, the nexus into which jazz and minimalism poured and out of which a new post-rock flowed. Legend holds that when the A&R man at EMI heard it, it brought him to tears-not just because of its tidal beauty, but because he knew it wasn’t going to sell. When they finished the psychotic, 11-month recording process, they were sure this interior, fully realized album would go platinum just like their third album, 1986’s The Colour of Spring-a fragile, autumnal collection of synth-pop shaded with knotty impressionism. Led by its two charting singles, Living in Another World and Life’s What You Make It, Colour propelled Talk Talk’s rise, selling over two million copies.

First released as "Talk Talk The Collection" in 2000, further versions of the album with the same track list include The Collection (2003), It's My Life: The Collection (2001) and The Ultra Selection (2001). As with all of the band's EMI compilations until 2013, the album was not a band sanctioned release. Though the collection contains no new material, It does have the non-LP1983 single, My Foolish Friend, on 12 March 2007 the album was reissued with a bonus DVD of their music videos. Two bonus tracks were included from the 1999 live release London 1986. The Party's Over (Talk Talk album). Asides Besides is a compilation album by Talk Talk, released April 1998.
Neither Spirit Of Talk Talk (the book) nor Spirit Of Talk Talk (the double album) is capable of capturing the elusive, mysterious, alchemical qualities that made Talk Talk’s work and recordings so frequently, immaculately perfect. But if they turn people on to the idea that even the quietest music, even the most superficially simple songs, even the biggest hits and the least successful of albums, can contain depths that our current listening habits prevent us from recognising and that we should nonetheless explore, then they have proved worthwhile. The music speaks for itself. EXCERPT from The Spirit Of Talk Talk by Chris Roberts. It’s perhaps hard to convey now how thoroughly the ‘New Romantic Movement’ took over pop in the early Eighties
Talk Talk went from being New Romantic clones to experimental jazz-esque pioneers in the space of less than 7 years - as recorded here. The bonus of having their (frankly excellent, if mildly disturbing) videos finally on DVD makes this an utterly essential, and extremely good value purchase. Most are directed by Tim Pope, who focussed on great ideas and mood, rather than special effects.
