John Watson Jr. (February 3, 1935 – May 17, 1996), known professionally as Johnny "Guitar" Watson, was an American blues, soul, and funk musician and singer-songwriter. A flamboyant showman and electric guitarist in the style of T-Bone Walker, Watson recorded throughout the 1950s and 1960s with some success. His creative reinvention in the 1970s with funk overtones, saw Watson have hits with "Ain't That a Bitch" and "Superman Lover"

The whole album is of a piece, but some obvious highlights include "Family Clone," "Ain't Movin'," "Voodoo What You Do," and some mind-blowing vocoder guitar on "Come Dance with M. Not quite a great lost classic, but it comes pretty darn close.

Johnny Guitar Watson’s long and fruitful partnership with the British label DJM came to a close with 1981’s Johnny Guitar Watson and the Family Clone, one of the mercurial performer’s strangest and most endearing albums. The performances are low-key and improvisatory, but they're also full of ideas.
