The name Rhyming Guitars certainly fits this album, since the signature interplay that is the heart of Pell Mell's sound involves both echoing guitars and musical phrases. This EP came out shortly after the successful release of The Bumper Crop, and though there is a slightly more strident sound to the instrumentals here, most of these cuts could have fit on that album
Pell Mell biography Not to be confused with a 1980s American band of the same name, Pell Mell was a symphonic band from Marburg, Germany (Marburg is also the name of the debut album). The first album is characterized by a rough edge, especially in the vocals. Subsequent albums would smooth out the edges.
Pell Mell (1) released five albums between 1972 and 1981. Their music heavily used themes and melodies from Classical music in a rock context. Pell Mell (2) was an instrumental band, often seen as a precursor to the post-rock movement. Their first recording, Rhyming Guitars from 1982.

SST Records/Greg Ginn would have to decide to release it to The Orchard (who has the digital rights to the SST catalog).

Shortly after the release of Rhyming Guitars and the departure of guitarist Arni May in 1981, Pell Mell recorded these live tracks as a trio - the most aggressive, raw, and abrupt album in their catalog. In their early days they were perplexed to be continually categorized as a surf band. In fact all they were shooting for was music as cool PiL, Josef K, The Fire Engines, The Feelies, A Certain Ratio, Pere Ubu, The Contortions and others then-contemporary moondoggies.
