As Soundway’s entry point into the Asian music world, The Sound of Siam CD and double LP offers a unique vantage point to the most experimental period in Thai musical history. Got it. + add. album. Thailand means different things to different people. Beyond the beaches and tourist spots lies a world of music still waiting to be discovered. The 19 tracks reflect the outcome of a twentieth century journey from Thai classical to Luk Krung and Luk Thung – music that incorporated western influences such as jazz, surf guitar, ballroom and even Latin and African.
Celebration City Life Classy Gatherings Club. The Sound of Siam: Leftfield Luk Thung, Jazz & Molam in Thailand 1964-1975. This set offers a stellar aural portrait of the biggest shakeup in Thailand’s musical history, as the country moved from its early 20th century percussive, instrumental, classical style (thai ka son) to the more vocal lak thung and molam, both of which centered on vocals, were shorter in length, were easily pressed on vinyl and sold in shops.
And an intriguing one, at that. Tracklistings come from MusicBrainz. Leftfield Luk Thung, Jazz and Molam from Thailand 1964 -1975 at musicbrainz. Find out more about our use of this data, and also our policy on profanity.
I have recently obtained this repress and the first press of 75 -78. The difference in the sound between those two is evident. Since i don't have the first pressing of 68 -75 to compare it with, i can not confirm whether that comes as a result of the pressing or the quality of the recording self, considering the recordings age difference. This album would be good to put on in the background durring a party. But whatever, it's so good.
