British folk rock was developed in Britain during the mid to late 1960s by the bands Fairport Convention, and Pentangle which built on elements of American folk rock, and on the second British folk revival. Rather than mixing electric music with forms of American influenced progressive folk, it used traditional English music as its basis. A significant moment was the. release of Fairport Convention's 1969 album Liege & Lief, which developed further in the 1970s, when it was taken up by groups such as Pentangle, Steeleye Span and the Albion Band.

From hard rock to punk, new wave, indie and Britpop, British bands have defined entire genres and influenced millions of rock fans over the years. The UK music scene has produced some of the world's most iconic bands and artists, whose work remains just as popular and revered to this day. From Joy Division to Radiohead, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, these are the best. They were also one of the first British bands to introduce the idea of a concept album, too, with 1969’s hugely successful Tommy. Who’s Next is one of the great UK rock albums, too, and the band are still talking about their generation five decades on. Georgie Gillard/Daily Mail.

Norwegian Wood (British Rock Symphony) by Paul Rodgers & Ann Wilson. I had to surf the American Amason site before I managed to purchase this product and the postage was more than the album price. Great artists performing on this classic album including my favourite Paul Rodgers who does a brilliant job covering the Beatles classics. Not a bad track on this compilation. I would recomend this purchase to lovers of rock music with a classical twist.

Initial attempts to emulate American rock and roll from artists such as Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley took place in Britain in the mid-1950s and lead to the development of skiffle. Through the 1960s the first British invasion took place with a variety of blues/rock-oriented artists such as The Rolling Stones and pop/rock-oriented artists such as The Beatles garnering worldwide popularity.

The idea behind British Rock Symphony is to take some of the greatest songs in British classic rock, give them bombastic orchestral arrangements, sequence them as a symphony, and hire a handful of veteran rockers to sing them. There is an audience for this, as the symphonic re-workings of Pink Floyd, Queen, and Led Zeppelin songs have proved, but those were instrumental albums and weren't quite as pretentious as British Rock Symphony.
