"A document of the Hop-Frog Kollectiv’s participation at Soundwalk 2006. Intended as a cleansing ritual this five hour installation was recorded separately by each member on reel to reel and four track tapes in A minor and overdubbed live for five hours during the installation. The DVD audio documents two and a half hours of the original recordings set to text and heavily effected visuals taken abstractly from HFK’s live performances, found film, and brilliantly-collaged stolen footage." - URCK Records

The Hop-Frog Kollectiv out of Long Beach, California occupies an unusual (though not illogical) musical space in the realms of indigenous folk, techno, and world beat. Performing music inspired by both real and imagined Others, particularly those of the Middle East (the Hop-Frog logo is made to resemble the crescent moon of Islam, crossed by the collective's own logo), the collective reconciles Eastern timbres and composition with Western psychedelia and fantastic folklore. Hop-Frog, originally Hop-Frog: Or, the Eight Chained Ourangoutangs, a short story by Edgar Allan Poe, was originally published in 1849. The main character, Hop-Frog, is a man with dwarfism, who extracts revenge on those he serves. The story gained a reputation by critical voices as literary revenge against Elizabeth F. Ellet and her circle of peers. The story is also arguably autobiographical. Hop-Frog, like Poe, is kidnapped from home and presented to the King, in Poe’s case, his wealthy foster father, John Allan.

Both epic contributions were arranged for a orchestra of unusual instruments such as the Yangqin (Chinese dulcimer), Ruan (moon guitar) and the more traditional, such as the Silvertone and Hammond organs; midi and electric guitar; flutes and human voice ' era Eno. Highly recommended.
