Rain Tree Crow biography With Japan having imploded in the early 80's few people ever expected to see David Sylvian, Mick Karn, Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri in the studio together again or indeed producing such a fine collection of songs under the moniker of RAIN TREE CROW as was the case in 1991. The style of material draws heavily from each musicians forays as solo artists with lush expansive, often improvised, soundscapes hung on loose meandering grooves being the norm

Rain Tree Crow is the result of a collaboration between former Japan members David Sylvian and Mick Karn. Sylvian and Karn teamed with keyboardist Richard Barbieri and Steve Jansen, adding guitarists Phil Palmer and Bill Nelson for their self-titled debut. Like a mellower, new age-oriented version of Japan, Rain Tree Crow explores stark soundscapes that sound alternately beautiful and desolate. Although it is a bit too challenging to provide a good introduction to Sylvian and Karn's music, the album remains fascinating for their fans.

Digitallyremastered reissue, in standard jewel case, of 1990 album recorded by all four original members of Japan (David Sylvian, Mick Karn, Richard Barbieri and Steve Jansen) but released under a different moniker. Steel balls
I think this is an amazing record. This is Japan sounding nothing like Japan, and it`s not very poppy! You have to try again... It will grow on you...
Lilegha
I'd argue that this is Japan sounding very much, at times, like they've (Sylvian?) been listening to too much Talk Talk. Have always considered this album overall to be quite disappointing, even though there are some very fine moments. Reading Mick Karn's book: "Japan and self existence", makes me think that I'd very much like to hear this album prior to Dave deciding that actually, this was really his solo album - so he was going to mix it as he saw fit - and the other 3 band members were little more than paid session musicians....again! The "other 3" must've been thinking that they'd been here before.
Anayalore
There is a snare drum beat on this record that were sampled a couple of times.
