Stranger to Stranger is the thirteenth solo studio album by American folk rock singer-songwriter Paul Simon. Produced by Paul Simon and Roy Halee, it was released on June 3, 2016 through Concord Records. Simon wrote the material over a period of several years, perfecting it and rewriting it to his liking. Its music is experimental, making use of custom-made instruments by composer and music theorist Harry Partch.
Paul Simon spent the past five years painstakingly crafting his new album Stranger to Stranger (out June 3rd), knowing he’d have to create something extraordinary if he wanted it to stand up to the best work from his past. There are a lot of preconceptions because I have been familiar to the public for 50 years, he says. To get people to listen with open ears, you have to really make something that is interesting because people are prepared for it not to be interesting. Paul Simon Plots Expansive Tour Ahead of New Album 'Stranger to Stranger'. I don’t set out to make each album different than the last one, he says. It’s just my natural inclination.
Paul Simon released his 13th solo album, Stranger to Stranger on 3 June 2016. It’s his first studio album since So Beautiful or So What in 2011. Simon collaborates with Clap! Clap! on three songs; The Werewolf, Street Angel and Wristband. Paul about Clap! Clap! in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine: He takes African sound samples and puts digital dance grooves behind it. His newest album is a masterpiece. He makes music sound new and old at the same time. He told the New York Times about the overall theme of the album: The theme of this album - it’s not a lyrical theme.
The Werewolf" opens Stranger to Stranger, Paul Simon's thirteenth solo studio album, with a heavy rhythmic thud - bass, drums, and maracas lumbering along in a modified Bo Diddley beat not a far cry from the Who's "Slip Ki. Simon isn't looking to the past, though: he's writing toward an inevitable sunset, mindful of mortality - just like he was on 2011's So Beautiful or So What - but he's firmly grounded in a tumultuous present, embracing all the cut-and-paste contradictions endemic to the digital age. With the exception of a pair of hush.

Watch Paul Simon Stop By 'Portlandia' for Awkward Q&A. Stranger to Stranger stems from experimental origins, including sessions channeling 20th century composer and theorist Harry Partch who made custom instruments in microtonal tunings, while working with a group of Flamenco musicians and Italian electronic dance music artist Clap! Clap!. Sound is the theme of this album as much as it's about the subjects of the individual songs. If people get that, I'll be pleased," Simon continued. The right song at the right time can live for generations.
Stranger to Stranger" displays Simon's ear for compelling rhythms and sonic effects, which he created this time around with exotic instruments crafted by musical experimentalist Harry Partch to perform the microtonal music he championed, plus world music touches such as the single-string Indian gopichand he plays on the opening track, "The Werewolf," the robust tuba in "Cool Papa Bell," the mbira . for 1990's "The Rhythm of the Saints" album. He dealt with that issue humorously on his recent Hollywood Bowl stop on the Stranger to Stranger tour. At one point in the show, guitarist Vincent Nguini, with his heavy Cameroonian accent, saluted the band's leader for his travels "around the world exploiting various cultures. Exploring," Simon interjected.

Paul Simon records, dating back to the final ones he made with Simon & Garfunkel, have always been as much about the songs as the way those songs sound. His best albums – Bookends, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Graceland – reveal new layers of musical depth with each listen, uncovering sonic textures easily buried beneath the gorgeous melodies
