Start Me Up" is a song by the Rolling Stones featured on the 1981 album Tattoo You. Released as the album's lead single, it reached number one on Australian Kent Music Report, number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number seven on the UK Singles Chart. The basic track "Start Me Up" was recorded during the January and March 1978 sessions for the Rolling Stones' album Some Girls. The song began as a reggae-rock track named "Never Stop", but after dozens of takes it was abandoned
Start it up Start me up Ah, give it all You've got to, you've got to never, never, never stop Slide it up (Woo), oh baby, just slide it up Slide it up, slide it up, never, never, never. You make a grown man cry You make a grown man cry You make a grown man cry Ride like the wind at double speed I'll take you places that you've never, never seen'. If you start it up Love the day and we will never stop, never stop Never, never, never stop Start me up Never stop, never stop. A few overdubs later, there was an unexpected Rolling Stones classic, as Start Me Up shot up to in North America and in the UK and became a mainstay of the band’s concerts. It even was used by Microsoft to promote Windows 95. The lyrics are Mick Jagger claiming he feels soaring like a car or a plane, probably in bed (though why the partner makes a grown man cry is a good question!).
Don't make a grown man cry My eyes dilate, my lips go green My hands are greasy She's a mean, mean machine Start it up If start me up Give it all you got You got to never, never, never stop Never, never Slide it up You make a grown man cry Ride like the wind at double speed I'll. take you places that you've never, never seen Start it up Love the day when we will never stop, never stop Never stop, never stop Tough me up Never stop, never stop, never stop You, you, you make a grown man cry You, you make a dead man cum You, you make a dead man cum.

In 1981, 'Start Me Up' became one of the Rolling Stones' biggest hit singles After starting his career at Olympic Studios in Barnes, South London, during the late '60s, Chris Kimsey engineered albums by Bad Company, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Mott The Hoople, Spooky Tooth, Ten Years After, Peter Frampton and the Rolling Stones, before assuming a production and/or engineering role with the Stones, Jimmy Cliff, Pete Tosh, the Cult, Joan Jett,. Released in August 1981, Tattoo You is widely regarded as the Rolling Stones' last great album; an ingenious division of rock tracks on one side and ballads on the other captures "the world's greatest rock & roll band" close to their best.
