My version is the German ATL 50718 issue, acc. to the cover. The record is a Test Pressing, marked on the sleeve, made by the pressing company Pallas Gmbh. My evidence is as follows: Lable says Pallas with the Pallas Athena logo, and "Unverkäufliche Musterplatte" - literally meaning "unsellable pattern record". The inner sleeve says: "Musterschallplatte - Bitte sofort kontrollieren und zur Pressung freigeben" .

Joachim Kühn has been a hero of unconventional European jazz for 40 years, and he's one of the few pianists ever to have negotiated a fruitful piano/sax conversation with Ornette Coleman. His roots are wide and deep - in the Jarrett/Tyner jazz axis, but also in the classical music that occupied his early career - so to find him in his mid-60s recording in the Sahara with Berber musicians is no surprise. This gripping session is far from a routine world-music banter between jazzers and chanters.
The Desert Song is an operetta with music by Sigmund Romberg and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, Otto Harbach and Frank Mandel. It was inspired by the 1925 uprising of the Riffs, a group of Moroccan fighters, against French colonial rule. It was also inspired by stories of Lawrence of Arabia aiding native guerrillas. Many tales romanticizing Arab North Africa were in vogue, including Beau Geste and The Son of the Sheik.
Joachim Kühn zeigt einmal mehr, wie gut er sich auf fremde Musikkulturen einlassen und sie mit seinem Klavierspiel verbinden kann. JAZZMAN (FR) - CHOC - Platte des Monats - Juli 2009. The great avant-garde pianist Joachim Kühn celebrated his 64th birthday on 15th March, 2008, and spent it in the desert doing what he does best - making music. First they jammed directly at the spring, and then they went and recorded at the near-by Palms Hotel on the outskirts of the town of Erfoud. It was also completely ringed by desert, says Kühn. I’m a fan of the desert, and I have travelled a lot, but the trip here went through some.
